什麼是社會企業?
社會企業 是指致力於解決社會問題、改善社區、提升人們的生活機會或改善環境的企業。與主要以股東利潤最大化為目標的傳統企業不同,社會企業將大部分利潤重新投資於自身業務或當地社區,以進一步履行其社會或環境使命。

What is a Social Enterprise?
A social enterprise is a business that trades to tackle social problems, improve communities, people's life chances, or the environment. Unlike traditional businesses that primarily aim to maximise profit for shareholders, social enterprises reinvest the majority of their profits back into their business or the local community to further their social or environmental mission.

What is communication design?
Communication design is a multidisciplinary creativity that focuses on how information and messages are conveyed to target audiences through various media, including visual, audio, audio-visual, digital, analogue, interactive, or multi-media. It blends principles from graphic design, marketing, psychology, and technology to create effective and engaging communications. The primary goal is to ensure that the intended message is not only received but also understood and acted upon by the audience, often by strategically combining visual, textual, and interactive elements. This can encompass a wide range of applications, from branding and advertising to user interfaces and informational graphics.

什麼是美術指導?

What is art direction?
Art direction is the strategic process of defining and maintaining a consistent visual and aesthetic style for a design project, brand, campaign, or movie. It involves overseeing all visual elements—such as imagery, typography, colour palettes, layout, mood, tone and manner—to ensure they align with all other senses of the deliverables and the project's goals, communicate the intended message effectively, and resonate with the target audience. The practitioner of art direction, often referred to as an art director, is responsible for translating abstract concepts and creative briefs into tangible visual solutions, guiding a team of designers, photographers, illustrators, and other visual artists to bring a cohesive and impactful vision to life.
The Founder and Design Director of Design Studio MZ+MM has experienced more than 20 years of joys and sorrows through his career in art direction. He is also good at observing and guiding followers’ abilities; their experiences often grow at the same time. 為何設計工作都必需美術指導,尤其屬於組織或品牌的一切?
在一個完備的企業營運中,為了利潤最大化,抑或永續發展也罷,其對外和對內的形象,某程度上是經過一段時間的艱苦經營而得出來的永遠的半成果。然而,一個品牌、一間非營利組織或一座城市,亦復如是。用類比來解說或更清晰,試想像整個營造就像一齣電影、一輯長篇電視劇,每一個呈現於觀眾的影音,都經過策劃與執行。無論那一個電影的製作人員都可以容易地對上一個類似的企業的職位,大概祇有美術指導一職,沒有一個可以對得上的企業職位,也有極少數的非創意產業的企業設有美術總監的職位。若然沒美術指導的電影或電視劇,其視覺元素及美術風格就會凌亂不堪,碎片式片段難以湊合,令電影的時空猶如夢境。企業沒有認真看待貫徹美術與品味,一切營運便難持續。

Why does design work require art direction, especially for everything related to an organisation or brand?
In a complete corporate operation, for maximising profits or sustainable development, its external and internal image is, to a certain extent, an ever ongoing deliverable obtained after a period of hard work. The same is true for a brand, a non-profit organisation or a city. To explain it more clearly with an analogy, imagine that the entire operation is like a movie or a long-running TV series. Every audio and video presented to the audience has been planned and executed. No matter which movie crew member can easily match a similar corporate position. Probably, there is only the position of art director, which no corporate position can match. Of course, very few companies in non-creative industries have the position of art director. But, if there is no art director in a movie or TV series, its visual elements and style will be messy, and the fragmented visuals will be difficult to put together, making the time and space of the movie like a dream. If a company does not take art and aesthetics seriously, all operations will be difficult to sustain.
